FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

How is the Farm Card different from previous Taliaferro Farms shares?

The Farm Card is similar to previous Taliaferro Shares in that you have a pre-paid card that you can use to come to the farm, shop at our store, and swipe to pay. You can also use our Farm Cards at our Farmers Market stand in Rhinebeck. Additionally, there is no membership fee to buy a Farm Card. Unlike previous Taliaferro shares, you aren't limited to only loading $100 at a time; you'll be able to choose three different card value options. Click here to learn more about our Farm Card options.

Since our Farm Cards each come with an additional cash-value bonus amount, we will not have "Member" prices at our store like the current Taliaferro Farms shares have. Please see our explanation below about how your Farm Card's added bonus value is essentially the same as Taliaferro Farms' "Member" pricing at the Farm Store.

Will any remaining balance on my 2019 season farm card with Taliaferro Farms be carried over to the 2020 season?

Yes, if you sign up for any of our farm card tiers for the 2020 season, we will honor the unused balance on your Taliaferro Farms card at the end of this season. We'll just put that remaining balance right onto your new card when you sign up.

Will you offer free "seconds" to Farm Card members?

Yes, Farm Members (those who have purchased a Farm Card) will have access to free "seconds" — produce that isn't quite pretty enough to make it to our Farm Store shelves.

No, we will not have "Member" prices at our farm store. This is because each Farm Card tier already comes with an added cash-value bonus amount. This means that your discount is already built into your Farm Card, which is why we will not have "Member" pricing at our Farm Store.

We offer these added bonus amounts throughout the season; if you use up your card during the season, you'll be able to refill your card with any of the three Farm Card options that you want, and you'll still get the discount that's included with that Farm Card tier.

  • The Taster costs $100, but has an added bonus value of 10%, which means you'll get $110 loaded onto your card.

  • The Healthy Eater costs $300, but has an added bonus value of 15%, which means you'll get $345 loaded onto your card.

  • The Veggie Lover costs $500, but has an added bonus value of 20%, which means you'll get $600 loaded onto your card.

How is the Farm Card different from a traditional CSA?

The Farm Card is a less traditional form of CSA. Farm Members still make a financial commitment to the farmer by purchasing a pre-paid card; but instead of receiving a predetermined box each week like in a traditional CSA model, members are able to come to our farm store or markets and use their Farm Cards to purchase what they want, and however much they want. By providing your farmers with the money up front in the form of a Farm Card, you allow us to budget our season and commit to fully providing you with high quality veggies!

Are your vegetables organic?

Yes. We are fully committed to using organic farming practices. Our land has been farmed organically for over 20 years and we plan to become USDA Certified Organic in the Spring of 2020. Click here to learn more about our farming practices.

When can I start using my Farm Card?

We are open for the season as of May 8th, 2020! You can come to our Farm Store to use your card on Tuesdays 10am-7pm, Fridays 10am-7pm and Saturdays 10am-5pm.

What if I am away on vacation one week?

The beauty of our Farm Card system is that it is entirely up to you to choose when you want to purchase your veggies, and how much you want to get! For example, if you tend to cook more in the Spring and Fall because you go on summer vacations, then you can use your Farm Card funds at our store or market stands in late May and come back in August to continue using the remaining balance on your card. And if you come home for an unexpected weekend in July, come see us and buy some veggies with your Farm Card to make a yummy homemade meal!

Can I get a refund on my card?

When you purchase a Farm Card, you are making a commitment to use those funds to buy our veggies and other value-added products that we offer at our Farm Store and Farmers Markets. We, the farmers, count on this commitment to plan and manage our production schedules and costs accordingly. Because of this, we are not offering refunds for the purchase of a Farm Card at this time.

Does my Farm Card expire?

Yes, your Farm Card will expire at the end of the 2020 season, which will probably be sometime around Thanksgiving. Your purchase of a Farm Card is a commitment to use those funds during the 2020 season; this commitment helps us plan and budget our season so that we can provide you with a wide variety of vegetables. Because of this, your funds will not be carried over to the following season.

Can I come to the farm anytime?

Our Farm Store will be open on Tuesdays 10am-7pm, Fridays 10am-7pm, and Saturdays 10am-5pm. You'll be able to come and use your Farm Card to shop for veggies and other locally sourced items during those hours. Additionally, we'll send you emails about any special U-Pick strawberry, blueberry, or flower events that we plan during the season.

In light of the current pandemic, we ask that you please only visit the farm when our Farm Store is open. Thank you for your understanding!
